Job Purpose

Contribute to the integration, interdependence and self-reliance of children and young people, and their families. Services include assisting parents to develop childcare and parenting skills, referring clients to appropriate community services, and introducing clients to positive social and recreational activities.

Duties and Responsabilities

1. Assess and plan services (Individualized Service Plan) to identify client’s personal issues and individual choices for the protection, care, and treatment of their children.


2. Introduce clients to positive recreational and social activities and appropriate community resources and develop routines and activities that are safe, enjoyable, and stimulating.


3. Contribute to the effectiveness of integrated case management teams including participating in team building initiatives, recognizing opportunities for team building, acknowledging team success and failures, and promoting multidisciplinary practice within the team.


4. Promote relationships of trust and co-operation with clients, respect cultural values and beliefs, maintain professional boundaries and educate clients on the availability of complaint resolution procedures at the Child Development Centre.


5. Engage in ongoing personal and professional development to respond to current and future needs of clients including a self-assessment of training needs and developing a well-documented plan to facilitate career growth and learning.


6. Keep accurate, up-to-date records in accordance with Cariboo Chilcotin Child Development Centre policies and procedures.


7. Use email, internet, and Microsoft Office for clinical and administrative tasks.


8. Recognize your own professional boundaries and demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality.


9. Establish and maintain working relationships with other community social service agencies in Williams Lake and British Columbia.

Requirements

1.    A diploma in the Human Service Field or a degree in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, or a behavioural science.


2.    Good written and verbal communication skills, good computer skills including use of email, internet, and Microsoft Office.


3.    Ability to teach/model childcare and parenting skills and to work effectively with other professionals.


4.    Effective interpersonal communication skills.


5.    Must possess and maintain a valid BC driver’s license.


6.    Current Occupational level 1 First Aid.


7.    Must have own reliable vehicle suitable for travel.


8.    Current satisfactory criminal record check required.
