Drum-Making Group Featured in My Cariboo Now

Updated: Jul 14, 2025

Our Drum Making Group was recently featured in My Cariboo Now. The article highlights a three-day drum-making workshop that provided local youth aged 10 and up with an opportunity to engage in traditional Indigenous practices under the guidance of an Elder.

This initiative was made possible through a grant from the Central Cariboo Arts and Culture Society, and was developed in collaboration with S.A.G.E. Trainers. (The article mis-identifies this collaboration). Their support was instrumental in sourcing authentic materials and to ensure the cultural integrity of the experience.

About the Program

Over the course of three days, the youth:

  • Crafted their own drums using traditional methods.

  • Learned about the cultural significance of drum designs.

  • Participated in drumming sessions, culminating in a group performance.

Each participant had the option to keep their drum or gift it, aligning with the tradition of gifting one's first drum.
